“Hyenas share a complex social world, much as humans and primates do”
►What I SEEK for on the RESOURCE of the newspaper today was that hyenas have a society like humans and primates, because they have groups about 60 to 80 hyenas and they each other individually, they TRANSFER information together, also they protect them selves alike primates and humans. Also most of the research on the social brain hypothesis has focused on primates. One reason for that bias, and is many scientist thought that no other animals were worth studying.
►I agree because this animals are very smart.
►I also agree because they have a lot of smart on the social way too.
►I agree because also the scientist are sating this too.
►I think the most interesting fact is that they have this society way too, and they are smart.
“Schoolchildren taught to live healthier lives”.
Genny Johnson began volunteering at her twin grandson’s school when they started kindergarten. Now the boys are finishing sixth grade, and she’s become grandma Genny to all students at Kellogg elementary school in Chula vista. Johnson was recently recognized for her volunteer service at the school during it’s 50th anniversary and PTA founder’s day celebration. Students presented Johnson with a congratulatory banner while principle Emily Acosta Thompson proclaimed feb.20 as “grandma Genny day”.
I think the lady does deserve it.
Now that the kids are in 7th grade I wonder if she’ll follow them.
If theirs been other parents too how come only she got the congratulations.
Today in the union tribune, I read that Persian cats are not even from Persia, their from eastern Europe. If cat owners know anything about their pets, its how energetic the creatures can be. But scientists have begun to pull back the feline veil, using the latest molecular tools to get a peek at their origins. Cats are certainly more mysterious and complex than we would ever think, said Leslie Lyons, who studies cat genetics at the school of veterinary medicine at the university of California Davis. However, were starting to get their story. In one of the most comprehensive explorations of cats origins to date, Lyons and her colleagues spent about five years collecting feline DNA, poking behind the whiskers of more than 1,100 Persians, Siamese, street cats and house hold cats around the world to swab inside their mouths. The genetic samples came from 22 breeds of fancy cats, mostly in the united states, along with an assortment or feral cats and pet cats in Korea, China, Kenya, Israel, Turkey, Vietnam, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Tunisia, Egypt, Italy, Finland, Germany, the United States, and Brazil. By analyzing 39 genetic signposts in the samples, the researchers were able to investigate a variety of questions, including which breeds were closely related and where they most likely originated.
The article I read today was about how a twister kill 55 despite warnings. Many homes were flattened by dozens of tornadoes that ran through and INTERACTED with the south. Many people tried to save themselves by pulling furniture and other large things over there head to protect themselves. Bank employees rushed in to a vault. There was students that huddled in there college dorms, and a lady stuck in her house holding her dog. Early that day broadcasters have been sending warning signals for hours, then when it finally arrived people began to pack their things up to save their lives. Many people were stuck because they had no place to go. There was 55 people killed and hundreds were injured.
Reflection- I think that this article is real sad because I can imagine how the people feel about loosing their homes out of nowhere. I wonder what the kids were thinking when they found out that they were about to loose everything they had. If I was to take one item out of my home it will be portraits and photos.
Interesting Fact- An interesting fact about this article is that their was a dozen tornadoes that hit the south at one time.
A Chula Vista school honors one of its volunteers. Emily Acosta-Thompson Principal at Kellogg Elementary school in Chula Vista has proclaimed Feb. 20th as “Grandma Genny Day” Genny Johnson began volunteering at Cottontail Elementary when her twin grandchildren were in kindergarten. When her grandchildren transferred to Kellogg Elementary when they were in the 2nd grade she followed, and started volunteering at Kellogg. Her grandchildren are finishing up the 6th grade and everyone at the school has come to recognize her as “Grandma Genny” Johnson was recently recognized for her volunteer service at the school during its 50th anniversary and PTA Founder’s Day celebration. Her duties were setting up display’s during upcoming holidays, taking Spanish-speaking students and helping them with their fluency, and actively is involved in the schools fundraisers.
Reflection: I think its great people like that are in the community because it helps the students when they know there are people who are constantly setting a good example by spending their spare time helping others.
Reflection: It was a good decision by the school to recognize Mrs. Johnson for her kindness and accomplishments as a volunteer.
Reflection: It helps the community become a better place when children are able to have a person who is active in the community like Mrs. Johnson.
My Opinion: I think Mrs. Johnson is a great person and I hope when her grandchildren leave for middle school that she stays volunteering at the elementary.
Stabbing of three guards puts all state prisons in lockdown
The article I read about today stabbings at a California correctional institute. The stabbing occurred yesterday and all state prisons were locked down. Two inmates had stabbed three guards. At least one of the inmates involved in the attack is affiliated with southern California street gangs. One of the attackers is serving a 117 year sentence for attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon. The other is serving a 25 year sentence for first degree murder.
Interesting facts- The prison was built in 1933 to hold about 2,800 female inmates but currently houses 4,705 male inmates.
My opinion-I think the article was interesting. I think if I was a inmate that was going to be locked down for like 117 or 25 years I would get mad at the people that are trying to tell me what to do like all the time .

Smoking and the addiction to smoking has just been recently discovered as a genetic disorder that is influenced by genetics and not by a person’s choice. Scientists have just discovered that a genetic variance of a code is the cause of nicotine addiction. An interesting fact is that the addiction to smoking is not associated to the area of the brain were pleasure and rewards are located. Instead the only COMPENSATION that a person receives when smoking is the INTERACTION between the chemicals and an area in the brain to stave off depression. So it is very interesting to see that addiction in some cases helps with depression. Scientists also found out that since it is a genetic disorder it is inherited from the parents. Parents that were addicted to smoking have an 80 to 90 percent chance of becoming addicted too. Those people who are addicted have a less likely chance of having lung cancer than those who barely started smoking. So the INICIAL thought after discovering this piece of information was to try to find a way to help those people who were not addicted but could become addicted.
