Today I read about that After hearing testimony and deliberating for more than 12 hours, the California Coastal Commission yesterday voted 8-2 to deny a proposed toll road that would cut across a habitat reserve in Orange County and San Onofre State Beach next to Camp Pendleton. The panel decided that certain aspects of the project failed to meet California's coastal regulations. Their vote prohibited transportation officials from creating the first tollway to run through a state park.
More than 3,000 people attended the public hearing in an exhibition hall at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. It was the largest turnout for any meeting in the commission's 36-year history.
Many supporters and critics of the tollway project carried signs and shouted slogans. They included mayors, construction workers, commuters sick of traffic jams, conservationists, state parks officials and surfing legends such as Mickey Munoz and Shaun Tomson. I think that is good that they are not going to ruin any parks.

The proposition for the building of the toll road has been rejected. This does not mean that that is the final decision the board will make. But until now the decision to build a road connecting the Orange and San Diego counties has been rejected. This is due to the fact that the toll road would have been built over and through a state park. Also the building of the road did not meet some pollution regulations and thus it will not be built. Unless the errors to the building plan are made to make the road more environmental healthy the decision is to not build it. Yesterday at the convention more than 3,000 people gathered in order to presence the decision. The vote was 8-2 and the decision was set. Now some of the companies that want to build the road will have to give the Coastal Commission a new revised building plan if they still want to build the road. The new plans will have to meet the California’s Coastal Commission regulation.

- SOURCE: The San Diego Union Tribune
- Toll road proposal voted down
- The article that I read today was about a COMPLEX toll road that was voted against. After various RELEVANT testimonies and deliberating for more than 12 hours, the California coastal commission yesterday voted 8-2 to deny a proposed toll road that would cut across a habitat reserve in orange county and San Onofre State Beach next to Camp Pendleton. The panel decided that certain aspects of the project failed to meet California's coastal regulations. Their vote prohibited transportation officials from creating the first toll way to run through a state park. More than 3000 people attended the public hearing in an exhibition hall at the Del Mar Fairgrounds.
- I think that this is an interesting article. I think that they made a good decision to not create a toll road that crosses through a state park. I think that if they did after some time that park will be IMPACTED.
- One interesting thing that I learned is that it was the largest turnout in the commissions 36 year history.

Today in the union tribune, I read after san Diego dodged the last recession in 2001 – continuing to grow as the rest of the nation went into decline – some civic boosters boasted that the region was immune to recessions cushioned by the diverse industries, stable military presence and strong tourism business. But as the nation appears to be heading into a recession, a growing number of economists fear that the county’s sagging housing project market weakening employment could pull it under as well.

♥ The article I read about this morning was about a man who is disappeared after the death of his roommate. The man is connected with the strangulation death of his elderly roommate. From the looks of this article the man disappeared after the death of Mimi Rohwer of 75 years of age. Apparently she was strangled to death. The man that investigators are searching is known as Julio Cesar Jacobo Curiel. He is 57 years old. Rohwer was found dead on Jan 23. Curiel is 5 feet 4 inches tall and he weighs about 175 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes.
♥ I think that a man like this is cold hearted. Why would someone kill a poor innocent elderly person. I hope that they find this man and he pays back for what he did to this poor lady.
♥ An interesting fact that I read in this article was that Curiel told people that he was an illegal immigrant in the United States.

“President Exempts Sonar use By Navy”
►What I read today in the newspaper was that president bush has bucked a court order by exempting Navy exercises off southern California from certain safeguards designed to protect whales and dolphins from mid-frequency active sonar. A federal judge had a set a national precedent Jan. 3 when she announced the sonar restriction, the strongest to date. Bush’s exemption, announced yesterday, also set a precedent: California officials said it was the first time a president has overridden the U.S. coastal Zone Management Act of 1972.
►I agree because they are trying to help the army.
►I also agree because they need their to look for invaders.
►In the other hand I don’t agree because they are invading the marine animals territory.
►I think the most interesting fact its that they are exempting the Navy to use the sonar mid-frequency.

Sen. John McCain all but sewed up the republican presidential nomination yesterday after Mitt Romney withdrew from the race, saying the war in Iraq and the terrorists threat made it imperative that the party unite. In a dramatic announcement before a convention of stunned and largely unhappy conservatives, Romney said he wanted to fight on but that taking his campaign to the national convention in September would delay the GOP’s campaign against Hilary Rodham Clinton or Barack Obama, the two remaining democratic contenders. Romney described them as weak on national security. They would retreat, declare defeat, and the consequences of that would be devastating, Romney, a former Massachusetts governor, told a crowd that broke into chants of Mitt! Mitt! Mitt! Staying in the race would be easier for senator Clinton or Obama to win. Romney, who spent tens of millions of dollars of his personal fortune on the race, added, frankly, in this time of war, I simply cannot let my campaign be part of aiding surrender to terror. Romney did not explicitly endorse McCain, but for the first time in a campaign remarkable for its animosity between the two men, he signed a degree of support to him.

Debate Club

The oxford debate club that has been around for over 185 years has been involved in some scandals. The members of the debate club board have been accused of various charges, including but not limited to sexual harassment, racial and gender problems. All the problems started when elections for the new president of the debate club was to be held. The position as president is very coveted since many of the presidents of that club have become very prominent politicians. During her days as student the prime minister of Pakistan, Benazir Bhutto, had been the president of the club. It makes sense then that the position be very desirable. So the elections were held and a young man, Krishna Omkar, won. But the runner up Charlotte Fischer, believed that the elections were unfair and that Omkar had deliberately soliciting for peoples votes. She hired a lawyer to prove that there was proof against Omkar and that he should be disqualified and even banned from the club. Omkar proposed a new rule that would let him reapply for the position. After successfully proving that she was right Fischer stepped down and decided to leave Oxford. She claimed that the debate club was a farce and that it had become so corrupt. She also claim to be sexually harassed and discriminated because she is a Jew. Some others agree with Fischer saying that the club has become a circle of closed minded people that can pass the power down to someone they want in the club instead of holding free elections.

Article; “Five Die In Long Hostage Standoff”

Summary; This morning’s blog is based on an article I read about hostage standoff in Los Angeles. The standoff started at 9 p.m. when a man called the police claiming to have killed three family members and asking officers to come to his house in the San Fernando Valley to kill him. The man was described as person with a history of mental problems, criminal record, and ties to a local gang. Once the police got the call, they took it seriously and came right away with the SWAT team. Once they arrived, they found two people who were already dead and 3 other hostages. Once the SWAT team opened the door into his house; the man immediately opened fire. This incident took the lives of five hostage including the first Los Angeles Police Department SWAT team officer ever killed in the line of duty. There were two people who suffered injuries and another officer was seriously wounded. Officers fired a set round of fire at the gunman and finally wounded him. The gunman died shortly after the shooting.

Reflection; I cannot believe how crazy people can be sometime but; oh well. I hope that the family and friend so those killed in this incident are holding up okay. Rest In Peace. <3333333

Interesting fact; The hostages that the gunman had were actally his family; his mother, father, and brothers. =/

- The San Diego Union Tribune
- Raids target Gambino mobsters
- The article that I read today was about a raid in New York. The raid was for a Mafia family called The Gambinos. They were once a ruthless crime Family whose empire stretched across the city and whose boss was a local celebrity, strutting across town in $2,000 suits and beating case after case. Although their mystique faded over the years amid a series of convictions and damaging testimony from turncoat mobsters, they still maintained an intimidating presence in the underworld. But the remnants of the once fabled Gambinos had their knees taken out from under them yesterday. Authorities carried out one of the largest Mafia takedowns in recent memory, scooping up dozens of reputed Gambino members and charging them with gangland crimes spanning three decades including the slaying of a court officer and extortion at a failed NASCAR track. State prosecutors separately charged 26 others with running a gambling ring that took nearly $10 million in bets on professional and college sports.
- I think that this is a great article. I feel bad for the ones who got caught because they’ll be doing some time.
- One interesting thing that I learned is that a federal indictment in Brooklyn named 62 people including the three highest ranking members of the Gambino Family and the brother and nephew of the late John Gotti, the notorious boss who ran the family in its heyday.

Article: Three sibling die in house fire

Summary: On Wednesday a teenager killed his 3 cousins in a house fire. The teen accidently started a house fire by using gasoline to stroke a small blaze in the fire place. The teen tried to save his cousins but couldn’t past the flames. A neighbor call 911 and said that he saw the teen desperately trying to reach the children. The neighbor also stated that the teen grabbed his sweat shirt over his head and ran inside to get the kids but he had to come back out because it was to hot and smoky. Authorities are calling Wednesday nights fire accidental. A lady that lived next door in a guest house said she heard him yelling for help so she put some pants on and grabbed the water hose. She claims she saw flames coming out the front door of the house.

Reflection: I believe the fire was an accident but I know that kid was old enough to know that you cant put gasoline in a fireplace. I agree with the police that the incident was an accident.

Interesting Fact: The teenager was 18 and his 3 cousins were under 10 years old.

The story I read today was about the mob. They caught an underboss from the mafia and escorted him yesterday. The police have been working on taking down a mob family that was, the operation code name was called “old bridge”. Police thought that there were no more mob families but they were wrong because there still is mob families.

♥ The article I read about this morning was about a 18 year old teenager that killed his three younger cousins. The boys name was Matt Norton. His younger cousins that he killed were Abbey Van Buskirk who was 6 years old, and her two younger brothers Andrew who was 4, and Austin, 2. matt tried to go into the house to get the kids out but the flames wouldn’t let him see anything, there was also a lot of smoke. Matt put on a sweater over his head and ran in the house. A neighbor who heard yelling saw the flames and called 911. inside the house were Matt’s grandparents himself his friend and his three younger cousins. The parents of the kids were in the hospital because their mother was getting cured for some viral infection.
♥ The article that I read was really sad. I think that this teenager should of known what he was doing before he even put that gas in the fireplace. I feel sorry for him because after what he did he still tried to save his little cousins.
♥ An interesting fact that I read about in this article was that sheriffs investigators are attentively calling it the fire and the death of the three kids an accident.

Union Tribune: Choking accusations bogus, suspended soccer coach says.
Today I have read an article on a Coach that apparently choked a minor. San Ysidro High School’s suspended soccer coach said that he was falsely accused of choking an Otay Ranch High player during a game last week. Eduardo Jimenez said that any contact with the player was the result of a split second decision to prevent a fight. Jimenez was taken off the filed at Otay Ranch High in handcuffs Friday and held in jail until Tuesday. He was released without being charged. Chula Vista Police are still investigating the incident. It all started because a player from Otay Ranch kicked two of his players and they were going to start fighting. He got in between them to avoid the fight. He said that he did not choke, push or grab the student. A student said that his coach did not do anything, he only put his hand on the boys chest to keep them apart. Well I think that they should let this incident go because it is ridiculous. I think that even if he had been choking the boy he deserved it for messing around and starting some drama.
